Fall Creek Tech Mentors

We have been off-line for a bit, but we are back and we are ready to begin giving technology workshops at Fall Creek. In the upcoming month we will provide a workshop on Kidspiration and a workshop on Garage Band.
Some exciting technology projects have been going on in classrooms around the school. The fourth graders have recorded folktales through Garage Band and we are in the process of posting them on line. The third graders have been working with PowerPoint and word to enhance their literacy learning. The Second graders have been learning the basics of checking out computers from the mobile lab. Each day as you walk past the Fall Creek library you can catch our librarian, reading specialists and grade level teachers modeling and teaching technology skills.

This month we have been trying to help staff who come to us with, printing problems, login issues, and various network problems. All of which were ultimately successfully resolved (we think). We received one response to our TM survey(asking how to help implement technology in the classroom). Chris will work with the kindergarten teachers to help them use technology to effectively communicate with families.

As a team we plan to present text to speech at an upcoming staff meeting. We will spend time configuring all the laptops and applicable desktops to enable the text to speech function. We will continue to meet needs as they arise and we will set a plan for school staff development.

This month has been our first month working together as the Fall Creek Freaks. We have sent out a flyer communicating our job and our desire to help the school community stay technologically savy. Soon after our flyer was in the hands of our colleagues we were approached with questions and ideas of all sorts. We are learning the many facets of the role of tech mentors.

Over the next few weeks we will be working together to set up a plan for staff development which targets each grade level. We are encouraging our colleagues to think of areas of technology that they would find most useful for working with their classes.
